When I was arrested as a young girl never did police ask my real age or attempt to question me. I would lie and say I was 21 or 18 and they just accepted it even though I was from age 12 to 17 when I was arrested and obviously not of age.
I feel a change in the way victims are being handled today, a small change. And I find it so incredible that New York is where this landmark law is being put into effect because that is where I was trafficked, along with Washingon, D.C. I believe everything happens for a reason. The law talks about trafficking victims that were arrested not being of the age of consent for sex and other legalese.
The project that is handling filing motions and assisting trafficking victims is the Advocacy Project and the telephone number is 212-298-5029, here is a link to more information about this landmark law that I want people to know about. If you have a record please contact them.
